Match Report

It was a gloomy day at Lipson college astro but that didn’t reflect the atmosphere surrounding the Plymouth uni 3rds team who that day were up for a challenge. After seeing what looked like the U16 team turn up we were in high spirits but we knew that these were some very skilful, pacey and athletic individuals and that we were up for a challenge. The game started quickly with a few chances falling to Roy Hewish after Russ Hartley put in a perfect ball only for it to be put just wide. Similarly a little later the ball ended up at Roy’s feet with an open goal only for him to turn around and push it past the post which to most seemed impossible. Soon after there was a gallant effort from Elmo who, after Tony chipped it up to him, tried to make a headed clearance that didn’t go so well and had to be subbed off due to scaring the young opposition with his resemblance to the elephant man.

So after a goalless first half with a number of chances falling to uni we found ourselves disseminating information, bouncing ideas of what to improve around for the second half and have a full existentialist debate which seemed to work as we started taking control of the game. Soon after Russ slotted the ball away in the bottom corner after a mistake from their keeper making it 1-0 to uni. This then gave us the confidence we needed to take control of the game and make it our own. Thanks to Pelham and Tony’s gregarious attitude the press was working well and after a few more failed attempts from Roy, Des decided it was time to take over and do what Roy hadn’t managed to do for the whole game; score a goal and after a quick pass from Russ put the ball in the back of the goal making it 2-0. After a few more attempts, and Essex deciding that if he would pushed over the keeper so there would be an open goal, it ended 2-0 after a very well fought game.
