Magic 3s vs Truro B

After a long night of felching for a few of the team, the Magic 3s met at Cuba with a voyage into the depths of Cornwall. The team embarked on this voyage with the guidance of Matt Hobson, the human satnav, with the quixotic idea that all the cars would make the journey however the white smoke erupting from the captain’s car on the Tamar bridge they realised this wouldn’t happen.

The team arrived with minutes to spare. The game started with Uni in full control switching the play from left to right but to no avail. Truro then tested the defence with a couple of breaks of their own. Uni finally capitalized on their pressure through a beautifully executed pass from Doug Tilley to Alistair Desborough leading to a Uni lead. The lead didn’t last long however as Truro quickly equalized through a swift counter attack. The half time break gave the teams time to assess the situation and with a quick talk from the captain, Antony Puttock, and the vice, Fergus Meyer, Uni were ready to press from the start to regain the lead.

Attack after attack ensued but no finishing touch to put the 3’s ahead. Finally a foot was found in the D giving Uni a chance from a short corner. Puttock injected to Tilley. Meyer took the ball in and with a highly unconventional technique put the ball to the realms of NASA’s satellites and with a voluptuous curve the ball lobbed the keeper and nestled in the netting. The goal was greeted with confusion especially from the scorer. Uni then pilled on the pressure to put the game beyond the hosts but to no avail. The hosts then found their stride and started to string together attacks of their own against unis tired legs. A through ball had the Uni defence left for dead. Tracking back but with too little pace to catch the striker were the back 4, Gerrit Visser, Charlie Moss, Matthew Elmer and Puttock. The striker broke into the D and wound up to shoot when out of nowhere came a heroic last ditch tackle from Harvey Lillie to prevent the shot and save the 3 points for Uni.
