Match Report | Match report for University of Wales Trinity St. Davids 28/10/2015 The 2nd team of the mighty Plymouth University travelled to the land of dragons and valleys in the early morning of October 28th to play in a place of waves and a proud history of m.ining communities. The air at the city library bus stop was awash with optimism and anticipation. With this in mind we set off in the coach for the 6/7 hour round trip. Noting the early start of the game, many a gentlemen were tired and resting. One notable player who had gone off to the land of sleep was 1st year student Michael Lewis affectionally known by his nickname BB, through his headphones I could vaguely make out a classic song by Adele ‘Chasing Pavements,’ fitting again I thought, due to the long distances which are needed to be travelled to play this BUCS game in Swansea. From pushback the Plymouth side asserted an air of dominance from the moment the ball was touched. An excellent press from the forward line of Barnes, Campbell-Orde and Tod led to Barnes picking up the ball and creating a 3 on 1 opportunity which Tod dispatched into the bottom right corner. Barnes gained his 1st assist of 8 during the match from creating the 1st goal. Further punishment and clinical ball movement led to Campbell-Orde scoring a total of 7 goals and adding to the 1st goal in the 1st half from Tod, he was able to leave with a total of 5 goals and a bag full of assists for himself also. The benefits of having a water based pitch meant the high saturation esq. levels of aqua meant that slick and fast passing was seen and applauded throughout the game. This was accurately represented by Matthew Elmer making his 2nd team debut and 1st BUCS appearance finished off a fantastic passing move with a deflected flat stick into the net. Not only was it a great goal but a great appearance from the Geography undergraduate with Elmer picking up a unanimous man of the match award for his 2 goals and 2 assists. Speaking from my personal viewpoint it was a performance of real magnitude and he shone on a cold day in South Wales. Scientifically speaking, it was a real thermogenic display whereby every time Elmer touched the ball a radiant of heat came off him. Other performances of note came from defenders Lewis and Jayawardana both grabbing goals. The midfield engine room of Templeman, Horton, Gunn-Colling and King created a symphony of smooth and crisp passing. Notable was King’s movement and pass accuracy ranking in over a 95% success rate for pass completion at least. Individuals can be praised for what they achieved but the coming together and the rising confidence and chemistry within the side meant the end result was an eye boggling 20-0 win from this writers view the highest score he knows of from his time at UPHC. Congratulations, and now the boys will move into the next round of the BUCS cup. |
