Match Report | UPHC 1’s had an early start venturing to the city of Bath. The 9:30 start didn’t stop a competitive game of monopoly on the back of the bus. The Worthing boys were swiftly struck out whilst Robs chances were obliterated when the destructive duo of Sammy and Crosby left him taking an early bath, similar to his days at Yeovil Town. Mouse and Bernie took their chances managing England and Arsenal using the well-known formation of the 0-5-5 to full effect gaining a high profile draw with Zambia.
Alas we arrived on a blustery bitter winters day to a sports complex that could only be compared to the Nancy Astor Sports Centre. We had time to kill; we decided to watch the Bath men’s 1’s followed by the ladies 1’s. The latter was a fan favourite with a few of the boys finding their dream girls.
The waiting had ended and we were ready to play. We were quick out of the blocks but the fluidity, which had left us 10 games unbeaten, was not as ever present as it had been. Bath took an early 1-0 lead through a disgusting spin leaving two of our defenders as dazed and confused as a dear in headlights. It was pick city in the bath 25 thwarting all of our early attacks but Fasey drew us back level with a pulchritudinous flick which rustled the right hand side of the net. Marj quickly doubled our tally and took us ahead going through their barricades like a knife through soft butter. Half time had arrived, 2-1 UPHC. Kasto and his broken finger rallied the troops hoping for a similar second half performance; the boys listened on attentively.
The second half continued in a similar trend to the first with chances at both ends. A cynical brace of challenges left Bernie in the bin for a couple of minutes. During this time Gobbles made a good tackle leading to a short to Bath and a goal that left some of the boys questioning the umpires eyesight. We continued and to the other end Rob put in a prodigious reverse cross resulting in Gobbles getting solid contact and directing it goal wards. The keeper put a knife in UPHC’s heart pulling off a ridiculous save. Still 2-2. The game was coming to an end and a flurry of shorts went in Baths favour with the injector cleverly deflecting a short into the corner of Fuhrers net. Few more chances for UPHC in the dying embers of the game didn’t come to fruition and the game finished 3-2 in Baths favour.
The boys were down but we will be up and raring to go when playing in the BUCS cup in Leicester next Wednesday. Notable mentions to Tancock and Rossco for solid performances but MOM went to Callum and DOD to Bernie.
Till next time, ciao. |
