University Of Plymouth Hockey Club A vs Taunton Vale B: 7/11/2015

The early morning storms had passed just in time for what was to be a six goal thriller at Fort Lipson.
A big crowd was out in force cheering on the mighty UPHC Super 2s, as well as the local Janner youth, doing whatever it is they do down there.

The game started dreadfully for the mighty 2s going 3-0 down at half time, the first goal came from an unlucky short corner conceded with the ball ricocheting off “Finnerty the Perpetual Flower’s” foot. To add further insult to injury, it was UPHCesque awful short corner routine that led to a goal. The next two goals came in quick succession and weren’t very impressive, so let’s move on.

Half time, the team were deflated, feeling down, as if there was no way back, but through the wise, emotive and powerful words of Lewis Gunn-Colling, we powered on.

Instantly we pushed on the attack putting all sorts of pressure on the Taunton defence, FINALLY, a breakthrough was made, a well worked attack led to a short, and who would have thought, we scored! A thunderous Campbell-Orde slap luckily came off the defenders foot and went in, in a post-match interview he said, “It was planned like that though!” Suddenly, the spirit was lifted, and the pressure was on the opposition. Goal 2 came from yet another short, yet another surprise too, this time Barnes scored! A man who couldn’t score in a 20-0 victory finally scored when it mattered from the short he picked up a loose ball and calmly slotted it home. 3-3 could have come if it weren’t for Toddy missing a one on one from a “Pirlo like ball” from Barnes, however he could not convert as he had his laces hooked, resulting in a flick. MORE DRAMA KLAXON. With flick maestro Gunn-Colling being a hero in goal, Toddy stepped up to the spot, the team stood together nervously waiting… He steps up… SAVEEED.. oh wait, it bobbled in?! Somehow, the one of the worst flicks had trickled in.

With the scores level, it was Plymouth all over the frightened opposition, the game was wide open. However in true Barnes style he missed two pivotal opportunities, including a simple deflection off Campbell-Orde moster hit it across goal, a better player would have been on his nose. Campbell-Orde too missed a deflection from a cracking ball from the half way line by Tod

Final Result: 3-3.
Probably a fair result after going 3 down in the first half, however could have easily won if it weren’t for a poor first half performance. Notable mentions go to the performances of Smart and Gunn-Colling

M.o.M: Smart or Barnes, So probably Smart wins.
D.o.D: Jayawardana or Barnes, and probably Barnes is D.o.D.
